Spring is officially a month away! In some ways, it seemed it would never arrive, yet it’s hard to believe it’s almost here. Get your outdoor living space ready to enjoy come springtime with a few easy steps.

After the mild weekend we just had here in PA, many of us are ready to head outside and enjoy the sun and the milder weather that’s on the way. This means it is time to give your home its annual spring cleaning – both inside and out.

When your property is looking nice and clean you can really appreciate your outdoor living space!  Here are some tips and resources to help kick start your outdoor spring cleaning projects.

Remember to clean decks and other walking surfaces.  Mold and moss can create slippery areas that are hazardous. This includes patios, walkways, and outdoor stairs. When you’re cleaning outdoors, always remember to start high and finish low.  Clean your roof and gutters first, then house siding and windows, and then the ground level.  This prevents any repeat cleaning.

Scrub down furniture and tables. This will help to prevent mold and mildew from settling in, and can even prevent cracking. Prune back shrubs and trees that may have gotten out of control during the winter. When you’re finished trimming, clean up branches and debris.

Don’t forget about your fence!  No matter what type of fence you have on your property, it should be cleaned. Allowing mildew and dirt to build up on a fence can cause discolorations and stains that will be very difficult to remove if left untreated.

After you’re finished with your outdoor cleaning, use a pressure washer to clean up walkways and driveways. If you don’t own a pressure washer, you can rent one inexpensively at Home Depot.

Some cleaning solutions that work well on outdoor spaces include Simple Green, an excellent cleaning solution that is environmentally friendly, or simply a scrub brush with a little soap and water.
